We've designed our Hospital Fund Development Program to help you establish a strong Wills and Bequests Program. We recommend that you proactively communicate to your community that your hospital is worthy of their philanthropic gifts. This process will help you secure the continued community and financial support that is so essential to the viability of your community's local hospital.

We recommend a structure called a Development Council which includes community leaders as volunteers in several committees. We assist you in the recruitment, training and on-going motivation of these volunteers.

Do you have a detailed and comprehensive plan for your friend-raising and fund-raising activities?

Whether you are seeking contributions for your annual support activities, capital campaign improvements, or to fund a special program or project, those singular efforts must include a number of key elements before you begin. These activities should be in your Fund Development Plan. In turn, this plan should be the result of your organization's needs as determined by your long-range Strategic Plan.

We have an established approach to philanthropy, but we recognize that each client, each market and each community is different. We will customize our services to meet each of our client's unique opportunities. Before we start, we evaluate your needs, your culture and your fund-raising environment. We seek agreement on our initial 12 months consulting services before we begin.

Our staff has a proven track record with more than 40 years of experience managing and cultivating charitable giving for hospitals and health systems. We understand the unique and evolving needs plus the opportunities in health care. Whether the challenge is a capital campaign or sustaining on-going support from your community, we understand your issues and are comfortable in your environment.

• Develop organizational structure - We will evaluate and then recommend a structure to provide your hospital fund development program.
• Determine recruitment and education needs - For each committee recommended, we will assist you with the recruitment and educational needs of the existing and new committees.
• Assess financial and program opportunities - In the area of estate planning, gift annuities and unitrust administration, we will recommend a process that will assist your organization in securing planned gifts for the future.
• Conduct internal and external audit - we will review the past and current levels of giving, and then recommend a plan and a process that will provide on-going fund development activities.
• Annual review and planning - Each year we will assist your organization in an annual evaluation of the previous 12-months' activities and assist with new fund development goals for each committee and the Development Council for the next 12 months.
• Provide a minimum of 12 on-site visits per year and will be available on an "as needed" basis. Actually, our staff will be on site when you need us!
• Recruit and train the development volunteers.
• Attend and facilitate the Development Council committee meetings as requested.
• Provide a detailed and comprehensive plan for "fund-raising and friend-raising activities".
• Custom design services for printed material.
• Provide recommendations on annual fund raising events, special fund raising projects, year-end appeal campaigns, and small gift donor programs.
• Provide a pro-active estate planning program to include the following items:
• Conduct quarterly, on-site estate planning seminars.
• Develop an estate planning quarterly newsletter.
• Provide gift annuity and unitrust administration information as requested.
• Assist in the development of a list for local estate planning and financial planners.
• Offer advice on methods to promote estate planning seminars.
• Provide phone support and advice to prospective donors with a deferred gift upon request.
• Assist with annual large gift programs of $10,000 and above through the Special Prospects Committee.
• Strengthen local business relationships through the Business and Industry Committee. This committee will attract corporate gifts, foundation gifts and grant monies.
• If appropriate, strengthen local agriculture business relationships through the Harvest for Health Committee. A committee will be organized to include the independent farmers and grain elevator operators and will provide farm education programs.
• Organize and conduct a capital campaign.

• Summer Institute - annual two-day seminar conducted with all HCFDC client hospitals for education, networking and learning. Designed specifically for Development Council members, hospital CEOs, Fund Development Directors and other community leaders.
• Development staff/volunteer orientation and advance workshops.
• Solicitation training for staff and volunteers.
• Donor prospect research/data management.
• Board member identification and recruitment.
• Board motivation and recognition activities.
• "Writing workshop" for Development Needs (i.e., Case Statement).
• Foundation research/proposal assistance.
• Standardized software training.

• Ability to produce via e-mail electronically-produced, customized documents and newsletters.
• Ability to quickly access our fund development specialists for advice and counsel.
• Generic graphic design assistance for development related projects.
